Professor of Beijing Normal University, Director of State Key Laboratory of Soil Erosion and Dryland farming, Winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, Won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Award, National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker, National Advanced Individual in Field Work of Science and Technology, etc.

He is mainly engaged in the research of soil erosion mechanism, modeling and monitoring technology, and was the supervisor of the projects of the First National Water Resources Census-soil erosion survey and research leader of the National Key Research and Development Program of the 14th Five-Year Plan—"Wind, water and melting erosion processes, coupling mechanism and control principle of black soil erosion". He developed the Chinese Soil Loss Equation (CSLE), invented the theory and technology of wind erosion measurement method (Wind Erosion Circle), proposed a new method of regional soil erosion survey, and compiled a quantitative soil erosion atlas of China; published more than 260 papers. 

He is the editor-in-chief of International Soil and Water Conservation Research, the associate chief editor of Catena, and the editor-in-chief of Journal of Soil and Water Conservation (in Chinese).
